Tip for tourists!
In Liguria there are two small towns to which tourists should pay particular attention, because they are strategically important for travelers in Italy.
Camogli
After visiting Portofino and the nearby Bay of San Fruttuoso, many tourists head to Camogli. The most adventurous go on foot, others by ferry. In Camogli there is everything the tourist needs for a nice rest on a large beach with small pebbles. Camogli also offers a picturesque seafront promenade for a leisurely long walk.
How to get there: by train, the station is located a couple of minutes from the waterfront, or by ferry from Portofino (change at San Fruttuoso).
What to see: stroll along the promenade of Camogli from the station to the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, situated close to the ferry terminal.
Sestri Levante
The ideal location of this town between the Cinque Terre and Genoa and the affordable prices mean that many tourists decide to stay right here. Although it is set on a peninsula and is surrounded by the sea, Sestri Levante has a good railway network from where you can easily reach Portofino and the Cinque Terre, and trains run very often.
What to see: one of the most beautiful bays of Liguria, the Bay of Silence (Baia del Silenzio) is located in Sestri Levante. You can also walk around the historic old center, rest on the large local sand beaches and breathe the atmosphere of this quiet little provincial town on the coast.
